» lollies100 - artillery definitions

John;
What puzzles me for a long time is the denomination of artillery pieces. Sometimes they are identified by their calibre (for example: 10")
sommetimes by the weight of their projectiles (32 lbs). Who is who, or better what is what in this confusion???
Since we now commemorates the 150th anniversary, the Crimean War is a little bit more focused upon. In Russian the standard book of Tarle is reissued and I see also a 2 volume work I completely wasn't aware of its existence: 'Восточная Война' by an infantery general Зайончковский, who lived from 1862-1926. This work was written in commemoration of the 5Oth anniversary of the Crimean War. It is the first thime a saw it mentioned. Do you know this book and its value as a narrative of the Russian version?
