I had not researched her activities beyond the standard short summaries that are in general circulation until I undertook this series, and it was uplifting to be able to relate how a determined individual had been able make such a positive contribution towards repairing the morale of the troops - the collective efforts of the entire official war machine having so drastically failed in this respect.
