» Red - Rachel, this article...

is great.

My grandmother quilted a baby quilt for my daughter when she was born. After she passed, my mother and I keep up the tradition, making certain a quilt was made for every baby born.

When my grandsons were born, Mom and I made quilts for them and she has made a quilt for the boys almost every Christmas since. They have train quilts, bug quilts and nusery rhyme quilts from the younger days.

I really enjoyed this article. Thanks for reminding me of how much these handmade quilts mean to future generations.

» Rachel_Paxton - great!

It makes me happy to see that other people share the same passion I do for creating family memories. I have to admit my quilting skills aren't that great. I'll have to work on them so I can lavish quilts on my grandchildren someday!

» Tina_Coruth - What an interesting article!

What an interesting article! My sister-in-law made a patchwork quilt for me many years ago -- it was beautiful. Good luck with your quilting and thank you for sharing this.

» Kathy_K - Family Quilts

Rachel,

I too am one of those who will probably never have the patience to learn such a pain-staking art. I can, however, appreciate the time and effort that go into such a beautiful object. As explained in my "Childhood Memories" article, four generations of my family have lived in the same house. While cleaning the attic one day I ran across a trunk filled with just such quilts. What a touching reminder of my great-grandmother and grandmother. Thanks for reminding me of such a wonderful keepsake.

Kathy

» stylishned - quilting

I am far from being a pro at quilting but it sure has been a thrill in my life when I make the quilts for my friends and family. They think that they are the most beautiful thing in the world and that keeps me encouraged to keep working at it.
