Your photo of the annuals in some nursery gives promise of what may eventually happen outside.
The image size is 262,616 bytes, a very large file. If you have any image editing software it is relatively easy to compress such a file and not lose any apparent detail as seen on a monitor.

On the top and at the left is a white, shrubby [hanging down] plant that I do not recognize. I also do not grow the white forsythia - and have never seen it to my knowledge. Sounds like a good bonsoi subject

I have rearranged the page so the photo and text are more together. The photo is of the Abeliophyllum and it has several different common names including white forsythia.

Is this better?

» Howie - Busy in the garden?

In response to message posted by Cottage_Garden:

With all the rain, ice storms and snow the only activity in my garden is the sound of deer munching on the tulips.

Did you get that foot of it the other day? I kinda thought you probably did.

Well, you are not alone, not quite.

I am glad I saw the cherry blossoms in Washington yesterday and a lot of flowering trees down in Maryland today -- they might get freezing rain tonight.

We, lucky devils that we are, might get snow and sleet and freezing rain tonight and tomorrow.

And what do you think I had to pot up this morning because they were sprouting in the baggies?? Sure, Hostas and Cannas. And where do you think they are spending the night tonight?

That's right, in my kitchen.

All I dunno six eight ten flats -- I kept the most cold tolerant stuff on the glass porch, brought the rest inside. By the time you add the annuals I couldn't resist last week and have been trying to acclimate. Oh yeah, and Natalie's herb seedlings in the basement under lights.

COme on SPRING!!!!!!!!!!!!

rotfl otherwise I'd be in tears

We had more ice the other day than snow. The flag that was attached to the facia became coated with ice and the strong wind that accompanied it tore the heavy cast aluminum flag bracket in half. That was not as bad as those people that lost parts of their houses to the storm. However, according to the weather report, this afternoon and night will make up for the lack of snow with a vengeance.
I envy you your trip to see cherry blossoms. Our trip was to a nursery where I acquired, among other things, a Abutilon striatum thompsonii . It is a variegata and in full bloom.

At the moment as I look out the window over the white lawn and rooftop it could be Christmas Eve here -- except for the daffodils looping over through the fresh carpet of snow.

How could that name that sweet alyssum "Carpet of Snow" -- using the s word like that, it's not a good name for a plant AT ALL!
