You may recall this from an earlier post but I've expanded on it and well... I thought you might enjoy it. You may also notice that I posted it in Carol's discussion area previously. Erroneously thinking that I had first posted it there.I remember some winter visits and the huge feather-stuffed 4 poster bed and the cold run to the outhouse in the early morning hours Dang, getting off the subject again. And did I mention how Grandma and I would go out in the early summer morn to set on the bench swing to watch the sun rise over the purple, red, gold, and green mountains? Dad and I built a sitting porch off the left side of the house one summer. The view spanned the mountain range toward the east and Grandpa, me and Dad would sit on the porch and I got to actually drink coffee (a wondrous experience for a 10 year old) And I remember the honey bee hive that Grandpa, Dad and I raided one time. If I try hard I can still remember the smell of the smoke and the bussing of the bees and Dad reaching into the old weathered tree stump and giving me my first taste of wild honey complete with the comb. And I remember Grandma, I confess, she was my first love. Don't misunderstand; not in some perverted way, but the love and adoration that a little boy held for a most wondrous woman. A woman who could tell stories about real cowboys and real Indians. Who could cook on a blackened wood burning stove and create the most wondrous dishes. And could chase a silly little boy around the kitchen table and out the back door waving a wooden spoon and admonishing me for sneaking a strawberry from the bowl on the wooden kitchen table with it's white lace table cloth. Yep, my grandmother had a garden; a rose garden. Actually it was kinda a rose garden / blackberry / bunny rabbit haven type thing. And Grandma, if by chance I never thanked you for that garden then I thank you now, and thank you ever so much more for the garden that you planted in my heart.
