» East_Coast - Favourite Character Okay....will this be an easy choice for folk or have some, like me, changed their minds over and again over the years!Long time favourite will always be Hilda Ogden ~ she of the curlers, the "muriel", and that voice that shatters glass! I was also fond of Eddie Yeats. However, these days, I favour Fred; I SAID I favour Fred! Indeed! So much so, that when I receive a piece of e-mail, it's delivery is accompanied by a: "Hallo, little budgie." LOL! How about you? Who do you favour?? -- posted by East_Coast » greggy - My faves My all time favourite characters are Hilda and Eddie, Jack, Raquel, Fred, and a few obscure ones: Debbie Webster, Billy Williams, and probably my all time favourite, Becky Palmer!Speaking of Hilda and Eddie, I recently reread Bill Podmore's book (former Corrie producer) who said he really regretted marrying off Eddie. It seems that Geoffrey Hughes was dead set against his character marrying anyone, he saw Eddie as a lifelong bachelor. Podmore went ahead with the wedding anyway, so Geoffrey left the show. After Stan was gone, Hilda really had nobody to team up with, and Podmore was sure that Jean Alexander would have stayed a lot longer if Hughes had still been there. Kind of breaks your heart if you think about it too long. -- posted by greggy » tvor - Favourites. Favourites. WEll, i've been watching since 1989 so to be fair i should only pick from those years forward. If i did that i'd pick Bet, Jack and Vera, and Mavis and Rita as a team. (never liked Derek, never will) If i was able to go back, and i have seen videos from past years and read all about all the other characters in books, i would also pick Hilda and Elsie Tanner. Annie Walker was a treat too as was Ena but they would be just a little below the other two. Jack and Vera have not been as good since they took over the pub however, i guess age and responsibility changed them. Tyrone is proving to be a little gem and Fred is evolving into a good multi faceted character as well. Roy and Hayley started out great but they haven't had much to do up until this millennium party.-- posted by tvor » conrose - Favorite Characters Well, I've been watching since day one. Do I dare say I still like Ken? Through the years he has remained basically true to his character, and although he is not the most exciting personality on the street, I feel I really know him because I've grown up with him. There are some classic characters that have to be on most everybody's list. Ena, Elsie, Hilda and Stan (one of the most endearing relationships ever portrayed on TV), Eddie, and more recently Tyrone. I also really like Toyah, Blanche, and I'm looking forward to getting to know SL2. She seems to have great potential. And speaking of brief appearances, I loved Grannie Hopkins. Never did warm to Raquel, and found Bet to be too OTT. All time favorite has to be the Hilda and Stan team. Connie (aka kiwikid) -- posted by conrose » mamie007 - Favs I must admit that when I was a teenager, Brian Tilsley was my all time favourite. I'd have died to meet him. (OK people I've grown since then!!) And then there was Stan and Hilda, Jack and Vera and of course Des Barnes. And most recent has got to be Tyrone. Haven't seen a young one with that much potential in a very long time.Mary Sue -- posted by mamie007 » puddin - Favorite Characters What a question! Stan and Hilda as a team... Annie Walker...Percy Sugden and Uncle Albert were both gems in their own ways.More recently I found Maude Grimes a joy and of course RTyrone!!! You'll notice that with the one exception of Tyrone, all my favorites are older generation. -- posted by puddin » East_Coast - Favourite Character Good point, Greggy, about Hilda. I didn't realize that the 'powers that be' insisted on marrying off Eddie. His leaving the street seemed done so coldly and without feeling after he essentially had adopted 'ilda and Stan as his surrogate parents. I used to adore he and Curly as the binmen. And when Stan passed over, 'twas so sad and Hilda did seem to have no one. Rather like Rita when Mavis left....But, I've hope for Norris (ducking from anti-Norris comments) and Rita; they've a great comedic chemistry (so far). -- posted by East_Coast » justan - fav charactors Ena & Minnie must be fav's from way back, they reminded me of two great aunts both who came from Salford and the family home was pictured in the early credits, and of course Jack Walker, he was a real sweetie. Eddie Yates was another, (still enjoy him in keeping up appereances), I agree he should have stayed single, I also had a soft spot for "our Erma", probably because I can remember her from being on her parents market stall, (in real life). Of more modern day characters, Fred, (I say Fred) would have to be one of mine, and Maude, I just love them together, I also like Tyrone, and hope they don't change him too much as his character develops. (didn't Rita's start her early days as the step mum to one of Ken Barlows pupils, when she was a singer in a seedy club, before she took up with Len) Most boring couple for me would have to be Ken and Diedre, sorry folks but that what I think, I know there will be many disagree -- posted by justan » Polarman - About myself I am called Polarman to see pictures of me go to www.polarmanshow.com to email me got o polarmanfan@hotmail.com I am a real superhero and I am trying to get ahold of Stan lee I became Polarman because I wanted to be more of a positive rolemodel for children and youth.-- posted by Polarman
