Keeping a Journal...
This archived discussion is "read only". « Previous 1 2 Next » » Tery - Re: Re: Re: Article from MayoClinic.com via CNN.com In response to message posted by Skull13:I started a Journal the other day and it is working great for me already. The only thing is that I decreased my activity and although I am still active (4 kids and all) the pain has not changed, but I just started so I am going to give it at least a month I write it for Morning, Afternoon, and Evening. As well as recording my activites, what I ate for the day, and how I slept that evening (record it the next morning of course.) I also color coordinated each thing. Activities in yellow pen, Pain in Pink pen, and Meals in Pencil. So that way each thing is easier to find. Like I said between the Journaling and lighter activities, I am going to give it a month before I really examine everything. But I always loved to Journal as I love to write, so it is not a chore for me. Don - don't you dare stomp on that penguin... I would love to have him on my signature, but don't know how to get him -- posted by Tery » Carol Wallace - Re: Re: Re: Re: Article from MayoClinic.com via CNN.com In response to message posted by Tery:That penguin (whose name is SQS prounounced as in 'Scuse me) wouldn't stomp anyone! In fact I have a larger version of him carrying a sign that says "Fibro Friends" - but the extra animation of that sign waving up and down apparently bothered a few people, so we made him smaller and less active. ;-) You can put him in your sig by right clicking on him to save him to your hard drive, then uploading him to your files directory. When you have uploaded him, click on the file name to go to the URL where the file is uploaded. Highlight that with your cursor and press Control-C - that will copy the URL to your clipboard. Then use this code in your My Stuff signature editing function: >IMG SRC=paste URL here align=left< Only reverse the brackets so they go in the opposite diresction, and paste the URL in, instead of saying "paste URL here. You can do that really ieasily by hitting control-V as soon as you've typed IMG SRC= ) and he should be marching for you as well. -- posted by Carol Wallace » Skull13 - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Article from MayoClinic.com via CNN.com In response to message posted by CarolWallace:Tery...I wouldn't stomp him...my stomping is limited to tiny bugs that can't stomp back! LOL I was afraid he might stomp me! One thing I noted in your journalling...the pencil...it could be a problem. Can you say smudge? It also fades over time. If you want to color code, and many people do, use another color ink. I just have a journal with different places and use one color. I'd get foggy and end up with a Picasso. Carol...even though I knew how to get the penguin, after reading your explanation, I can't believe that is what I know! Seriously, I just do some of these things and don't even realize how complicated they are or how hard they would be to explain. How do you keep all that straight? -- posted by Skull13 » tamara_peters - Re: Article from MayoClinic.com via CNN.com In response to message posted by Skull13:Don, thanks for the info. Tery, you might like to check out some of these Fibro Fighting Tools that may help with your journaling. The Guai Group Symptom Checklist link doesn't work, I removed that some time ago, but can't seem to remove the link from this group. I've looked and looked and can't find the page where this info is written to remove it. Aargh! Anyway, hope these help. If you want SQS to appear on the right side of the page, like mine and Carols, just use align=right at the end of the code. The process of finding what works best for you is sometimes a long one. I know it's taken me 4-5 years to finally figure it out. Decreasing or increasing activity may not decrease your pain levels. It just doesn't work the same for everyone. You may need med help - as many do. Journaling should give you some insight into the areas that are working or not working for you though. Carol, is there anyway you could make SQS, the one with the sign, smaller and less active as well? That would be cool if we could all have that one in our sigs. I do have the mini SQS still, but he doesn't have a sign. Speaking of SQS, he hasn't made an appearance in a long time. Is he on vacation or something? ;-) -- posted by tamara_peters » Carol Wallace - Re: Re: Article from MayoClinic.com via CNN.com In response to message posted by tamara_peters:I think I've had to explain to about 100 people how to insert a graphic - new editors as well as members. So by now it seems easy to explain until I look at the explanation - and then I think it probably looks terrifying. But when I see how many people here have little SQS's in their sigs I figure it must work. ;-) I wish I could fix the SQS with sign but I don't know how to do animations. And I haven't heard from the guy who did that one for us in about a year. And I'm not sure you'd be able to read the sign if it got much smaller. It would be nice, though. I do miss the little fellow, but he's been pretty busy running the world. I read an interesting quote last night that defined coping as "living in the moment." And I started thinking that living in themoment may help with pacing. At any given moment you either have the strength and energy to do something, or know that part of you is saying NO. I have to thnk on this some more but when I read that line it seemed to speak to me and I thought it might even be worth an article once I've unpacked it. -- posted by Carol Wallace » tamara_peters - Re: Re: Re: Article from MayoClinic.com via CNN.com In response to message posted by CarolWallace:Hmmm, wonder who we know that does animations. Not me that's for sure. I can imagine SQS must be up to his flippers in all that's going on in the world today. :O I can see how that quote spoke to you. I've never thought about it in regards to coping, but it sure does make sense doesn't it. Living in the moment to me means not worrying about the past or the future. Concentrating on where you are at that moment in time, and what you are doing. I think it also means accepting the moment for what it is. Living in the present. Cool! -- posted by tamara_peters » Carol Wallace - Re: Re: Re: Re: Article from MayoClinic.com via CNN.com In response to message posted by tamara_peters:That's it. Acceptin the moment for what it is. When the moment is a bad one, I do tend to concentrate on the fact that this particular moment won't last forever - but I also think I tend not to focus a lot on the future and whatever dreads it might hold - I'll worry about those when I get to them. ;-) Considering that SQS is ony 14" tall, it doesn't take much for him to be in up to his flippers. Poor little fellow. Yes - who do we know who can animate graphics?? Anyone out there reading this??? -- posted by Carol Wallace
