(from IBD 12/9/99)
VIRUS PRETENDING TO BE Y2K REPAIR
LETS WRITER "REMOTE-CONTROL" OTHER PCs

When an infected user logs on to a chat room using MIRC software,
the W95.Babylonia virus gets sent as a Y2K bug fix to anyone else
in that chat room.
If the user accepts the software, the virus will install;itself and later
obtain several files from Japan.
Those files, in turn, carry instructions affecting the user's computer.
The virus is the first to have this feature, which essentially lets
the virus writer control other PC's remotely.

Yup, this virus (actually, it should probably be more properly called a worm, but the new technologies are breaking down some of the terminology) has an awful lot of pieces to it. Actually, it is nothing new, because we in the research community have long known that all of these functions were possible.
