I have worked with LCDs most of the time I'm on the computer (I've got two portables), and besides being expensive, they can't change resolutions from their base resolutions easily, because of their fixed number of pixels, whereas a CRT can. Also, while these LCDs are light, the new shorter tube monitors with the ray guns in different positions make 19" monitors shorter than old 15" and 17" monitors. And if the manufaturer doesn't add enough backlighting, the image suffers. Active-matrix displays offer a good degree of viewing angle, but they usually are not as good as CRTs. What about projectors? John Dvorak of PC Magazine writes that projectors will take over the market in a few years. Very interesting. Finally, what about those 42-inch plasma displays. True, they're over $10,000 now, but as making larger TFTs become harder and harder, plasma may be the answer in the future. Just giving my cent's worth...whatever that's worth.
