Oh darn, they bore you. Do I care???? No, like I said before, don't write your articles just for people exactly like you. If you want, put the games you like and the games that you don't in your personal info. Write articles about gaming, and things you know about. You shouldn't write about RPG's because you don't like them so I suppose that you haven't play them that much. Write about things you know well.-Michael
ps. I don't only like rpg's BTW, I also like most other categories.

Alright guys...enough bickering! Michael...Dan was completely up front that his article was about games he didn't like, rather than just saying they were crappy games, or whatever. Everyone has their opinion about what games they like or don't...I happen to like RPG's for the most part, but just don't see the appeal of the Doom-type action games. But I still enjoy reading someone else's opinion, whether I agree with it or not. I didn't think he was flaming those types of games, just telling why he doesn't like them. Even within a genre, if someone reviews a game, you may or may not agree with their assessment. That doesn't mean you might not get something out of what they have to say.

Ok, maybe I was a little out of hand on this topic. I see now that it was more of his opinion than flaming. Sorry.-- posted by MichaelB_2

Michael--There's no need to be sorry for anything. I knew when I was writing it that it might cause some controversy. I actually wrote "Games I like" (this weeks' article) first, then I figured, while I was at it, I should write "Games I hate".
I just wanted everyone to realize what games I would be giving most attention to. (The ones I liked ![]()

Enthusiastic yet objective editors are needed for sites such as this. Perhaps more than one editor is needed; each editor could comment on games that are within his/her area of specialty or preference. There are lots of games out there, and it is impossible for anyone [with a life] to play them all. Maybe Michael should be editing for the RPG and war games, while Dan sticks with whatever it is that he likes. Someone lacking enthusiasm for a whole catagory of games will have a hard time giving objective evaluations of individual games within that catagory. While we're on the topic of opinions - I most enjoy C&C, Doom, Fury, and chess. Most RPG's bore me too, so I would not be a good person to evaluate them. I might be willing to try a new RPG, however, if the reviews were very strong.

I agree, maybe in the future Dan and I could team up as editors. I like most all genre's but I am not the best with RPG's or Wargames either. (there were just a few, and I was defending them.) BTW, you should checkout the new game MDK. This is amazing.-- posted by MichaelB_2
» Lance_Lindley - Flaming or not?
I realize this discussion is a zillion years old, and nobody will ever read this comment, especially since it seems like this entire topic has been abandoned; but I felt like adding that 1. using the word "sucks" in the article pretty much does make it a flame rather than an objective opinion of the genre (which is, by the way, the proper spelling), and 2. that the distinction between "strategy" (as in RTS) and "wargame" (as in "turn-based") is an awfully thin one, as is the distinction between RPG and adventure. And what really IS Diablo? It's not an RPG, it's not an action game. It is simply, Diablo, one of the most popular games of all time. What the author seems to be saying is "I don't play games to think! Give me action NOW NOW NOW!" which is fine; but saying "these other games SUCK" is akin to saying "you people who like them are boring idiots!" and will of course draw fire.

In response to message posted by Lance_Lindley:Hey, I read your comment!
Damn have games come a long way since this article was written. Can anybody really say any of the games today sit in one category? I think the whole genre thing these days is just a tool to make game reviewers' lives a bit more easy and to study the history of gaming in most orderly way possible. Take Deus Ex for example, which genre does this go in? The genre you have a preference to mabey? Oi, like I said, games have come a _very_ long way since this article was written.
