» Wolvie27 - Here's a few factors I've noticed

The "Wow!" Factor aka The "That was cool/sweet!" Factor - placing the player in a situation or giving the player the ability to create a situation that gets their heart pumping, such as near miss of a rocket in Unreal: Tournament or being spooked in Clive Barker's Undying.

The Risk/Reward Factor - where by if a player takes any risk whatsoever they are rewarded in kind, such as the difference between killing a small creature and a large creature in Diablo II.

The Accomplishment Factor - where by a player who gets along farther in a game has some sort of praise heaped on them for doing so well, there by given incentive to continue yet further for more praise, such as top score tables in most games (like Tetris!) and/or special cinematic sequences in which the player's character is given a central and pivotal role.
