I've been trying to find a decent voice command software. I'll have to look into this one, thanks!

When I saw the title of your article "Dragon Naturally Speaking" I thought it was a reference to the Artificial Intelligcence dragon "Maur" I've had linked at my topic for some time--now *there's* a dragon "naturally speaking"! ;)

In response to message posted by Dantessa:
I've used this program for the last six months on and off. My experience is that its pretty good, but you need a hefty brute of a machine to cope with the dragon's demands! With my Pentium 450mhz I have to close down everything else before starting Dragon or it just makes the whole machine too slow. When I've finished dictation I just cut and paste from the "Dragon Pad" into Word.

It takes a lot of time for the program to adapt to your vocabulary and style, but persevere with it and it gets better and better. Its also essential to talk into it at your normal speed and not slow down in order to "help" it.

On the whole, its as good as any, but don't expect it to be a quick fix.

» quasar - Why Dragon?

Hi Mo,

I was wondering why you decided to concentrate on Dragon rather than, say, ViaVoice or other products. I realize that Dragon is the most well-known of the speech products used by the general public, but it's also no longer produced. Why not pick a product that still has some life?

It may still be for sale at some places, but the company is out of business so there is no support, no maintenance, no work on future versions, none of the things that make a product viable looking to the future.

In response to message posted by quasar:

I have found a site Lernout & Hauspie that offers sales and support for Naturally Speaking. I was redirected to this site when I went to the former Dragon Systems site.

As I researched further into the L&H site, I noticed a Press Release about the sale of their voice recognition products to Scansoft on November 28th. So, I guess there is still someone taking care of Naturally Speaking, although it changed hands a couple of times. In the press release, it appears that Scansoft is retaining the L&H employees so I assume there will be ongoing support.

Janice, this announcement came out a day after your discussion posting so they must have heard your concerns (only teasing here)!
