» desertblue - Commercials What do you think of the excitement drummed up by the commercials each year? Which ones stand out for you?-- posted by desertblue » grimaceb - Re: Commercials In response to message posted by desertblue:
I've really never bought into the hype of the Super Bowl commercials. With rare exceptions, they never seem to live up to the buzz surrounding them. For every Bud Bowl and IBM "1984," there's four or five or a hundred plain commercials. I've just never gotten it. Ah, well. -- posted by grimaceb » desertblue - Re: Re: Commercials In response to message posted by grimaceb:Hey there. That was a pretty exciting game. The third and fourth quarters were VERY good, lots of tension, interesting calls, and drama. Whew! -- posted by desertblue » grimaceb - Re: Re: Re: Commercials In response to message posted by desertblue:
But Charles Woodson (Michigan) said "Fremont Ross," and that sent up a wild cheer at my party - which was hosted and attended by the coaching staff of Fremont Ross High School in Fremont, Ohio. Charles' alma mater and one of the schools for whom I coach the running backs. Quite frankly, I would have loved to see the Tampa defense shut down the Raiders completely, but at least the Raiders made something of a game out of it for ten minutes or so. And it was nice to see Rice catch a touchdown... even if it was on a blown pickup by the MVP, Dexter Jackson. Ah, well. -- posted by grimaceb » desertblue - Re: Re: Re: Re: Commercials In response to message posted by grimaceb:I'm happy for the Raiders. At least they could walk away without complete humiliation. And the game only got interesting, IMO, when it got mixed up a little. What did you think about the calls the refs made? -- posted by desertblue » transNdan - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Commercials In response to message posted by desertblue:For my part I think the commercials were better than the game this year. Many of them had me in stitches: Budweiser zebra, Reebok, etc. As for the officiating: has there been a worse officiated post season? The Bucs were already well in control of the game when the questionable calls started occurring but, you never know. What really irks me is the call on the 2-point conversion. Yes, they have rules to follow but at least for post season games can we have someone stand up and be responsible enough to fix obvious errors. Who cares that a "push out" isn't reviewable? It was obvious that the receiver was pushed and that he "may" have landed in bounds. This is important enough that someone - presumably the guy in the box upstairs, or hell, just get the commissioner on the line - should step up and say, "yeah, they missed that. I'm going to make an executive decision and do the right thing here..." Oh well, in a perfect world, but then again, in a perfect world officials would be infallible wouldn't they? :-) -- posted by transNdan » grimaceb - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Commercials In response to message posted by transNdan:
Of course, there's no telling that he would have come down in bounds anyway (and from what I saw, he wouldn't have), but you almost with they'd just give them the two points... otherwise, there's absolutely nothing preventing a player from just pushing a receiver out the back. It's a tough line to walk, because you don't want to encourage defensive players to do that, but at the same time you don't want to punish them if they happen to accidentally knock the guy out the back of the end zone. If nothing else, give him a delay of game penalty... :- Case in point: The Tampa Bay kickoff return that was "fumbled" and recovered by the Raiders. Now, the fact that the player was down should have been obvious to anyone, anywhere. But the Buc ended up having to spend a challenge to get the right call. That was ludicrous, and it really upset me. It ended up not meaning much, but had it been a close game and they been out of challenges because of that, it could have been bad news. In the end, I thought that it was a fairly well officiated game. It didn't come down to something like the Fiesta Bowl, where a questionable call puts a team in a position to tie the game and go on to win it. That was - in my opinion - an embarrassment. When you have that choice between making a call and not making it, erring on the side of not making the call is always preferable. Of course, I'm a Steelers fan. And I hate Joe Nedney. -- posted by grimaceb
