» CBJ - Bowl Season Great article series, Grimace! It's really enjoyable to read your insightful picks on the games. I may actually get to see a few of these since EPSN-i shows the BCS games here in Japan.I hope you're right about Bama. I'll have to catch that one over Internet radio. So what do you have planned for the off-season articles? I'm looking forward to it! -- posted by CBJ » grimaceb - Re: Bowl Season In response to message posted by CBJ:Of course, recruiting. Also, I'll be looking at how teams are built. Coaching strategies and the like. I'm also planning an article on large schools without football programs and what goes into the decision on whether to field a team or not. Also, the draft. What the marching bands and cheerleaders do during the offseason to stay in peak form. Who knows? Inspiration waits! :-) -- posted by grimaceb » GregM_3 - Re: Re: Rose Bowl I liked some of your observations on the Suite101 debacle, being a fellow editor but not for long. However. when you picked Nebraska to win it all, even after the Big 12 took a beating in bowl games, I must say you don't know squat about college football. The University of Miami undoubtedly was the best college team in the nation during 2001, an probably during 2000. The Canes not only won all their games, but survived on the road and defeated five teams that finished in the Top 25. Best of all, the Canes whipped the Huskies with their starting fullback and a starting linebacker. I may be a bit biased, UM Class of '56, but at least I can recognize a champion when I see one. In addition, UM has a great record against Nebraska and Oklahoma in big games, something like 7-2 or better. Interesting that picking one game wrong means I don't know squat about college football. :-) I have to admit I was shocked. I am usually very good about sizing programs up, and I never got a good bead on Miami. I watched the BC game, the Washington game, the Syracuse game, and the Virginia Tech game. And I could never figure them out. By the time the Washington game came along, I had lost all faith in the Huskies altogether, so that game proved little to me. The BC game should have proven to me that this team was special, but it just didn't. I knew Nebraska wouldn't be able to throw the ball. There was never any question about that. But I was amazed at how poorly their defense played. To tell the truth, it made me a little sick. And forced to run the ball halfway through the fourth quarter down by so much was a joke. I'll agree that Miami has as good a shot as any at repeating next year. As for their great record, I never go by past records. They can be very deceiving and really mean very little. After all, what was Florida State's record against North Carolina before this year? And I always harken back to that Sugar Bowl vs. Alabama... :-) Seriously, though, the Canes were amazing. I was wrong. -- posted by grimaceb
