» May9ard - Thorough enjoyment of espresso Did anyone ever see Saving Private Ryan? Remember that part when Tom Hanks' character wondered into a war-demolished hotel and found that old boiler-type espresso machine? I thought that was a neat touch. I dig it when I see coffee mentioned in a show or movie. It draws me in a little closer. For me, the enjoyment of coffee overall has been like a journey. I believe I had my first cappuccino in Scotland while I was in the Navy. I didn't quite know what it was, but I remember the lady behind the counter actually working a machine to make the coffee. While all the other guys were going to bars to get drunk, there I sat in this cozy little cafe overlooking the loch, with a cappuccino for sipping. That was the beginning. Many more memorable experiences followed, but space prevents me from sharing. I would say now that time has rewarded me with a developed talent in brewing coffee and espresso drinks. You could say I've done my homework, from reading books about coffee to picking knowledge from other baristas and taste testing many coffee shops. At home I have an espresso stand at the edge of the kitchen. http://roadraider.netfirms.com/images/co... I can barely trust getting coffee anywhere other than home now, which I'm sure many other fellow connoisseurs can relate. Well, that's my comment about that. -- posted by May9ard » Dan_Ellsworth - Re: Thorough enjoyment of espresso In response to message posted by May9ard:"Maynard G. Krebs" (Dobie Gillis lives on?), I enjoyed your note, including the link to the picture. (It would be fun to hang out with you around the corner shown there.) Your espresso memories are probably better than others' drunken non-memories, and sipping a concentrated coffee drink seems like an enjoyable evening, especially "overlooking the loch". Katherine, I enjoyed your article, too, learning a lot I didn't know. -- posted by Dan_Ellsworth
