Fighting Coffee PricesRead the article this discussion is about

» Red - coffee prices... I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for coffee if I could find a brand that had good taste. Currently, in southern Ontario where I live, you can buy a approx. 3 lbs of coffe for $3.89. This is a good price, but it tastes terrible. I used to use Hills Bros., but it is no longer available here.If you know a good brand of coffee that tastes like coffee, instead of flavored water, let me know. I have tried using more coffee in the automatic coffee maker, but all that does is give you a strong, bitter brew. Maybe I just need to go and buy a good old fashioned perculator. Any suggestions? -- posted by Red » kaustinson - Re: coffee prices... In response to message posted by Red:Hey Mary - you're right, different types of coffee certainly taste differently. Let me refer you to my article on 'roasts' to give you an idea of what's out there. Of course, it always helps to start with arabica beans instead of the robustas beans that grocery store brands use. As far as great places on the web to buy coffee, check out my Links. Hope your enjoy your next brew and I hope you NEVER resort to a perculator! -- posted by kaustinson » Maureen Fleury - Re: coffee prices... In response to message posted by Red:Aw Mary, we still get Hills Bros out here in BC. I buy the big can at Zellers for $5.69. They now have a large plastic container. I have many a fond memory of a perculator. On a wintry Sunday mornings, I would make a potful and leisurely read the paper and relax with a movie or have friends over. When I was studying for exams at college or writing a term paper, the perculator became my best friend. Nobody had automatic coffee makers back then. I graduated to a Melitta and then an automatic. It never bothers me if I happen to get grounds in my coffee nowadays, it brings back old memories. -- posted by Maureen Fleury
