- Franklin reenactment
I decided to go with Perry's suggestion about reporting on the Franklin Reenactment, and thought I could start by giving you some of the information we usually get before the event. The following comes from the Headquarters of our Trans Mississippi Brigade. And sent to the membership. Any and all commits are welcome. I will report events on the reenactment whenever I think you might find it of interest. General Order No. 21
It has long been my desire to lead gallant men into a desperate battle where the outcome would rest upon the valor of those who take up the struggle. That battle is ahead of us soon. You march today to redeem by your valor one of the fairest portions of our Confederacy (Tennessee) With determined patriotism we will face a hard campaign ahead. our base of supply will be left behind. But, by disciplined marching and fighting we shall prevail. There will be no more of fighting under the enemy's terms. With our strength and choice of ground, we shall drive from Tennessee that plague of locusts that has descended from Washington City. To that end, the following orders are hereby published: 1. Col. Moody will establish base camp Sept. 30th. and will assume command of the brigade until either col. Huckabee or General Beck arrives. 2. All troops must know the names of his company, company commander, battalion, battalion commander, brigade and brigade commander. 3. General Beck will be temporarily assigned to division headquarters until Sat. morning, Oct. 2. Col. Huckabee will assume command of the brigade. 4. The Brigade will be prepared to march at a time designated to a position which it will hold overnight, making preparations for battle. The Brigade will have three wagons for carrying the brigade supplys, cartridge boxes, water, ect. 5. Our line of march is as follows: 1st Arkansas Battalion (mine) 1st Missouri Battalion, and the Independent Guard Battalion. 6. Major Griggs, of the 1st. Missouri Battalion shall remain at the fixed camp until Sat. morning, and shall be in command of the base camp. Major Griggs shall bring up the remainder of troops Saturday morning, joining the main body of the brigade. 7. All battalions should be prepared to move by echelon, change directions to the front and rear, and to post guards. With these maneuvers, we shall move toward Columia and find the enemy to engage him. Through our courage, strength, vigilance and the blessing of the Almighty, we shall prevail. By command of Brig. Gen. J. Beck Trans-Mississippi Brigade
