» MyMuse - Good article

Hey DaNo!

Pretty cool aticle; very nice and rational.

When I saw CCM, I automatically thought of "Catholic Campus Ministry" since they use the same initials. Threw me off a bit.

» Dan_Ellsworth - Good article; good site.

Thanks for bringing us the message, DaNo. I looked at a few pages of the site, from the lofty and erudite perspective of 55 years, and would pronounce judgment as follows: Yea, verily, it rocketh most righteously. The footnote stating that a list was neither comprehensive nor infallible - well, that footnote seems comprehensive, if not infallible.

» Dana_Decker - Great Article!!

Birmingham just got a CCM station, just a little over three months ago and I listen to it constantly! Except at night, they play alternative music and I don't care for that too much. But for me personally, I have noticed changes in happiness, attitude, and even driving slower. I have learned that our attitude responds to what fills our minds. It's a pretty simple formula really...what goes in must come out!!

» hasilvera - What a shame

It's impossible to take the worlds music, our lyrics, and try to please a holy God?

» andrewjaemom - impossible to glorify with today's music?

Why is it impossible to glorify God with today's music? If you say that, then you would have to say that the only music that would ever glorify Him would be music on harps and other such instruments from the days of the Bible. Singing hymns to the sound of the piano would also be a no-no.

I personally love Xian music. Having been brought up with it since the mid-70s, I enjoy the diversity we have today. Back in the 1970s there was NO diversity and the music was pretty bad (although I liked it, I have to admit). But now I'm 32 and I have a wide variety of taste in musical styles, and I'm glad that Xian musicians have stepped up and delved into those genres.

I particularly like Christian Pirate Radio, a legal online radio station owned by Salem Communications (the leading owner of Xian radio stations throughout the country). It can be found at http://www.mycpr.com - I highly recommend it. I listen to it while I'm at work.

Xian music is exciting, fun, challenging and powerful. No matter whether it sounds like Anne Murray (how's THAT for an old-school name?) or Marilyn Manson, if the lyrics glorify God and can reach today's kids, then I'm all for it.

In response to message posted by andrewjaemom:

I think that contemporary christian music may be alright to listen to, however it is not necessarily acceptable to worship God. A lot of contemporary christian music is just songs that may not be bad, but aren't really praising God or honoring Him. So, even though they aren't "bad", they aren't "good" either. And that is sad that these artists write songs to attract a wider audience that sound so nonchristian that you can't tell the difference unless you know who they are.

» DaNo - It's not impossible to glorify with today's music!

In response to message posted by socrgrl6123:

This does hold true for some of the CCM, but then again there are different styles and bands that have more of the Word of God in their lyrics than the traditional Hymns many of us grew up with in Church. On the other side of the coin you also have some bands that are not in it to reach the lost but are ministering to those already in the Church.

If you are born again, then you are part of the Body of Christ. The Body has many different parts that have many different functions.

We need to pray that the Lord will lead the CCM bands of today and that they will hear His voice.
