» Sallyodgers - Titles

Thanks for an interesting take on choosing a title. I think the longest viable title I ever heard was "Jennifer, Hecate, McBeth, Me (Elizabeth)and William McKinley" ... or something like that. It was shortened to "Jennifer, Hecate, McBeth and Me" in the edition that sold in Australia. This was one of Zilpha Keatley Snyder's books, and she went to the other extreme with "(George)" - though again that had a longer title originally. "William Dickinson Carr and his (George)" I think it was.

I tend to avoid titles beginning with "The" but that's just a personal quirk. Dropping the "The" often makes a title seem stronger.

"The Perilous Gard"
"Perilous Gard"
"The Ghost Collector"
"Ghost Collector

I've just about stopped using "The" titles, but occasionally an editor restores it.

Would you consider doing another article giving some strong titles and explaining why they work?

Thanks for the tip about using or not using the word "The" as part of a book title.
