» CarlaGP - marijuana and pregnancy

Hi anyone and everyone. I'm a graduate student in the School of Public Health at Columbia Univ. in New York. I'm working on a report examining child welfare actions against new mothers who had one positive marijuana test--usually at delivery--and get investigated by the state under child abuse/neglect policies. Just because of the one positive marijuana test...

If there are any women/families out there who have had such experiences, I would be very interested to hear your stories. I'm sure confidentiality may be a concern for some; please withhold any identifying information about yourselves if you're concerned. You may email me at carlapoin@hotmail.com or write to me here. Thanks! This is becoming disturbingly common, your input would be very helpful!

» szwalker - Testing postivive at delivery

My girlfriend is currently in the hospital about to deliver her baby and she has been tested positive for drug use. She has not delivered as of yet but will in the next 12 hours. Child services is already all over her and I would like to know if she has any rights at this point in time. They have already threathen to take the child away and this is definitely not a very comforting thought for a first time mother about to deliver. Do you have any advise for me to help her with this? She realizes that she has made a mistake and is willing to do anything to make it right but is it really necessary for them to bully her right now?

I personally do not know how any of you could smoke anything while pregnant!Don'tt you understand that that little life inside of you is also feeling the effects of your Marijuanausagee! It is not at all right of you to put your unborn child through anything like that! Don't you know that because of you your child could suffer from withdrawals and may even die. I just hope for the sake of your children YOU SHAPE UP! i would like you to know that u sicken me right to the core!

I have a question for someone, anyone who might be able to help me, please!!!! I am 38 weeks pregnant and have used marijuana a few times throughout my pregnancy. It seems to be the only thing that has helped me deal with the severe nausea I have had almost daily. Anyway, I am terrified over what the consequences may be if myself or the baby test positive at delivery. Is there really a chance that the state will not let myself or my husband take our baby home? Will the baby test positive also? If someone could please try and explain what may occur at the hospital to me, I would greatly appreciate it. I have been so scared to death over this situation, I can't think of anything else!!!! Please Help Me!!!!!!!!!!!Thanks

i have two children and another one on the way. A girlfriend of mine was charged neglect to an unborn and had to take CPS (chilprotectetionon Services) classes and was on probation and got drugged tested and had home visits for 6 months. I've been doing a little bit of research to find out what marijuana does to an unborn child. Marijuana doesn't have the same effect to an unborn as it does to the person smoking. The way they can test is the first stool, will have some in it if you used any during your pregnancy. Smokinciggaretteses have been proven to be more harmful. I am not a doctor so I am still doing my research but most of the "negative" responses I have found have been opinions and not facts. It takes anywhere from 21-28 days to get it out of your system so if you are a user i would plan ahead and be clean 60 days in advanced to avoid problems.

Ok ms. beutyqueen1.... who are you to judge what other people do during their own time? Have you done research to support the fact that an unborn child will suffer withdraws or die from marijuana usage? Or did you just write that because it sounds like you can make a woman feel guilty? If you did your research you would know that marijuana does not have with draws when a person stops... and as for a child dying because of it? You need to get your facts straight before you post something that isn't even true.
