» julie_r - What kind of care did you choose?

I'm curious, what kind of care are people using? And why? Centers? Family child care homes? A nanny or au pair? A relative?

When my daughter was young enough for child care I used centers, but that was because it was what I was most familiar with at the time and I worked at the centers she attended. I did not know about family child care homes and assumed (probably correctly) that a nanny was out of my price range.

Would love to hear about what others are doing and why. Anybody using something not named? Or a creative arrangement?

» MyGrammie - Child Care Options

Hi Julie,
I was a stay at home Mom until my children were in school full time. For my daughter who had to return to work when my granddaughter was 6 weeks old I became the primary child care provider. My next article is about Grandparents as Daily Child Care providers for their grandchildren and explores some issues relating to GRANDS who decide to take on the responsibility. For my daughter, granddaughter and I there was never a question. When my granddaughter was 3, my daughter enrolled her in part time daycare 3 days a week mainly so my granddaughter would have interaction with other preschoolers. Child care is such an important factor in the child's development and all the options need to weighed to fit the child, economic and development needs. Sorry I got a little carried away, as you can see quality child care is a priority with me.
