Hi Susan.

I faced an 'ERROR' so can't access page 2 of your article and noticed all the links you provided in your article were not "active" for some reason. Usually the http "prefix" activates website addresses. Sorry..I'm just trying to second guess why Freda asks her question. smile More information vs more understanding.

If 80% of abuse is committed by a parent or parents, maybe the single greatest "cause" is choosing the wrong parents and thus history is always doomed to repeat itself. The learning experience one's God does not want to deprive us of?

The other current topic: 'Suicide Methods' highlights to me that big issues are depression and a lack of access to effective help, a "nowhere is better than here" belief rather than any allure heaven may offer. Unrealistic expectations in the volatility of youth... somehow most other people couldn't get through the same pain levels as they experience.

I read elsewhere that having a strong faith can be helpful but you point out the risks of that to the vulnerable in these circumstances.

Why do they do it? Why can't we pick the warning signs? Why don't more people actively care from a far more functional perspective?

More high profile people are disclosing their childhood abuse experiences eg the most recent I recall, was the US star, Teri Hatcher. I watched a TV interview of Billy Connolly the other night who disliked the term 'victim'.

I suspect these powerful messages of support sent via traditional media is not making it where its most needed. Kids today go for shorter sound and news bytes I'm told. SMS and iPods and word of mouth. The destructive word of mouth when passing on news of the lousy therapist, for example.

Both you and Traute keep the issue alive here like maple syrup slowly soaking through a stack of pancakes. smile
