» pmf2 - Pancreatitus (SP?)

i am just back from the animal hospital; my cat ingested about 4-6 azalea leaves. i took him in after observing him for 4 hours; his vomiting had worsened into heaves/convulsions and he was rather unsteady on his legs. although the vet was EXCEPTIONALLY uninterested in identifying the leaves (which he able to expel, thank the gods!), i pursued the matter and confirmed that they were azaleas, which are indeed toxic.

the doctor called earlier to say she has diagnosed pancreatitis and an inflamed liver; she said she would consult with the poison control center and let me know their plan of action.

i guess i am wondering if there is anyone out there who can comment on what the healing process is like for pancreatitis and liver inflammation; if the ingestion of azalea leaves is likely to leave my cat with a chronic condition; or any other insights.

Thanks SO much in advance for any comments,

my kind regards,

PMF

In response to message posted by pmf2:

PMF, sounds pretty nasty. I've never experienced a azalea poisoning with my cats, but I did go through a bout with pancreatis with my Belle. She didn't eat well for about a week, had a fever, etc. I had to force feed her and give her steriod pills (always fun to pill a cat) to stimulate her appetite. She just stayed quiet and hidden - no apparent pain, thankfully. I wonder if the liver/pancreatis is connected to the azalea ingestion?
If you cat vomitted the leaves out, there shouldn't be a chronic condition (I would think). I'll see if I can find any other info too. Let us know how things go!

» Shekera - St John's Wort

My Maine Coon cat has severed the nerves in his leg - the vet has said that he there is a high possibility that he may have to have his leg amputated. I read in the attached article that St John's Wort has healing properties in connection with nerves - does anyone have any more information regarding giving this to cats and does anyone have knowledge of nerves mending themselves, if so, how long etc.

Any help on this will be much appreciated.
