I think I may have to amend my article...I knew I forgot a few things. And cotton should probably be a no-no too!
Nancy, if the citrus spray didn't work on your cats (must have strange sniffers!), then the citrus garland probably won't either. Mothballs are more pungent (to you and kitty) but might be more effective...
The ceiling hook is a good idea, especially if you have a taller tree. I did forget to mention that my little 4' tree is on a pedestle away from most jumping points. :-)
