Every year, her fur gets matted at the base of her tail. I've been able to remove the matted fur most of the time with a brush, but have had to cut some out in the past. When I am finished brushing her there is a spot where her fur is thinner and she looks like she has a bad case of dandruff. However, this year I've noticed lots of little tuffs of fur everywhere. She doesn't seem to be acting strange (any more than normal :0) and the fur doesn't see to be coming from any place in particular. I live in Texas. Could this be because of the summer season?-- posted by aggielgn » Kitty015 - Re: Hair loss in my mature cat My cat is going through the same thing that you cat was going through. Tom is about 19 years old. I know that is pretty old for a cat, but he was in pretty good health until a couple of weeks ago. Now he is losing his fur rapidly, especially on the inside of his legs, his fur on his chest is all matted, he rarely grooms himself anymore, sleeps ALL the time, losing weight, and it appears as if his legs are much weaker than they were. I can tell when I watch him jump down from the sofa or chair. Did you ever find out what was wrong with you cat? I'd appreciate any opinions or advise. Hope your cat is doing much better!-- posted by Kitty015 » dcbsunny - hair loss in cats Hello, I am new to this site and have a question you may be able to answer for me. I adopted a cat from the Humane Society and she was abandoned in an apartment by her owners. (grrrr) She may have been tied up alone for a few days. She has a bald spot behind each ear, about the size of a nickel. Healthy looking skin where bald. Vet wants to do a "ringworm" check. I just spend over $900.00 on my previous cat who had to be put to sleep so money is tight!! Do any of you have any suggestions? They would be greatly appreciated. By the way, she is a love!!!-- posted by dcbsunny » emmerlee - Re: Hair loss in cats In response to message posted by tschach:I realize I am responding to a fairly old post. I'm just wondering whether you ever found out what was up with your cat. We have a young, neutered male black cat with exactly the same condition going on, hair loss in the same places, appears healthy, no sores or overgrooming. What happened with your cat? -- posted by emmerlee » Scharch - Re: hair loss in cats In response to message posted by dcbsunny:I am in the same boat! My sister just bought my 4 year old (soon to be 5) a kitten from the animal shelter for her birthday. I didn't want the expense of a new pet and even though my sister dished out the first $150 to adopt, buy supplies and first vet visit, I have still put in over $150 in more visits to the vet. Our kitten has hair loss behind her ears too. She has been tested for mange and ringworm and does not have either. Our vet is stumped and I am frustrated. Did you ever find out anything??? -- posted by Scharch « Previous 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Next » Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
