» PupPup - St.Elmo, Patron Saint of Sailors

St. Elmo was a bishop in Italy under the Emperor Diocletian.

Having fled persecution to become a hermit on Mount Lebanan he was captured and martyred, his intenstines drawn out by an instrument called a windlass.

The instruments similarity to a capstan is the reason sailors invoke him as their patron saint.

He is also known as Erasmus. His feast day is June 2, he died in Italy in c.300.

Hope this helps!
