» Barbara Bell - Surely one of the best cartoonists!

Aside from the engaging storylines, Lynn Johnston's artistic skill keeps me in awe. She makes it look so easy, with such simple lines, to evoke the aging of each character (Elly in a bathing suit, April becoming a pre-teen, etc.) and give their expressive faces true emotion. The latest storyline of Elizabeth realizing her boyfriend has been using her, should be an example to a lot of young women.

Often we use "cartoon" as a pejorative noun, to say that someone is not life-like or is shallow in character. Lynn Johnston's creation defies that stereotype - and I admire her gift so much!

» jerrib - I love this strip

It's at the top left on our paper's cartoon page, so obviously others like it, too. It was great to read of this artist's personal life. We all put ourselves into our art, though it may not be noticeable to others.

This strip is one of my favorites. Thanks, Susanna, for enlightening me about its creator. Very interesting article. I look forward to the next installment.

And I found you because of the new Arts and Crafts community. Isn't it great?!!
