Before reading this, the only time I had heard of the Outer Banks was from the TV meteorologists describing weather systems heading up the the eastern seaboard. Now I will have the splendid picture you have painted of the Outerbanks come into my mind instead of a mere geographic location. Oracoke sounds like my kind of place - a beautiful spot away from the crowds and commercialism! I would love to visit. I know I would take your advice and rent a bicycle.
