» Joy Butler - Holiday cats

I enjoyed this second part as much as the first. We had the exact opposite of Ram, a solid white cat for over 18 years, and he came here as a Christmas kitten for our son when he was small. Snowman was certainly a part of the family for all that time. Feb 15, 2002 was a sad day, indeed, for us and we still miss him and all his little habits around the house. May Ram live a long and happy life as did Snowman.

Ram reminds me of the jet black tom cat I had when I first came to Denver. He had only one fault. He kept bringing live mice into the house with the expectation that I would reward him for his fabulous hunting skills.

Hi Barbara,

Thanks for stopping by. I love dogs also--and may be closer to them in the end. We currently have a little treasure called Taffetta who we got from the Humane Society about 10 years ago.

Thanks for your post.

Hi Joy,
Thanks for your comments.

Snowman must have been a wonderful cat. It is amazing in a way how much animals become a part of the family--and such an important part also.

Tom,

I think you've seen the light! Wish I could have seen you running out into the world, shouting your annoucement. Bet a few leaves fluttered and fell to the earth in admiration!

I agree Tom

I totally understand how you see Ram as the The Leavening. Often I find my "Tom" bringing me back to earth. From his persistant Mewows for morning breakfast to jumping on my lap just when I think I don't want him to , but find I appreacate.

Thanks Tom for putting into words what many of us animal owners understand, but not know how to explain. You have just given me an idea for my next article too.

Hi Hank,

Thanks for taking the time to post. We don't seem to have a lot of small critters like that here in the suburbs of Portland, OR where I live, but cats are notorious for showing their love by bringing their master such offerings.

» biogardener - No Need for Cats?

If you think that we no longer have a need for cats, think again. Since Winnipeg passed the "Save the Mice" cat leash bylaw, the mice have taken over the city. The largest extermination service in town who had pushed for the passing of the bylaw is now asking that it be repealed. They had probably thought that they would make more money if the cats didn't cut into their profits. Instead all that they have found out is that their extermination efforts are no longer effective. Before the passing of the bilaw, the company was taking bows for the work of the cats. Now they have to do the work themselves, and they aren't doing too well.

Calgary has already repealed their cat leash law. You can't control mice without cats.
