Hi Mary,

Glad you enjoyed this review. Yes, I admire this classic also, and I fortunately got to review the HarperCollins reissue of the book.

» Ireland - To Kill a Mockingbird

Ah one of my very favourite novels. I teach it at school to my third year students.

Wasn't it sad to hear of the death of Gregory Peck last week? He played Atticus to perfection I thought.

Yes, that was sad about Peck, one of my favorite actors.

» Red - great review...

Tom,

Can you believe I had never read this book until a couple of weeks ago. I decided it was time and enjoyed it immensley.

Thanks for the great review and for the bio on Harper Lee. As always, you have done a terrific job. I'm glad to see that Nichole has included it in this year's Black History Event.

Gregory Peck did a great job in that movie. It really impressed me. Oddly enough, I spent three years in the south during the 40s and didn't see that level of predudice. It's odd how much can happen around one without it being seen clearly.

Henry,

I have been to Florida several times, which means traveling through the souther US. Unfortunately, as late as the 1990's, I saw this prejudice first hand. Being Canadian, I had never experienced this before and I was horrified. I hope I never experience it again.

Although I no longer live in the south, I see lots of reverse discrimination in Colorado. When jogging or walking, I nod and to say hello to most of the people I meet. Many minorities respond with a glare.

We all live in our own worlds. We see with our own set of eyes.

Hi Hank,

Well it was at that level, but it was not just the South, the South is just more overt about racism. Other areas of the country are usually sneakier about it. For example, using subterfuge to keep blacks out of unions or certain schools.

Well, it is too much to into here.

Best wishes,
Tom
