Money isn't everything, thank goodness!
This archived discussion is "read only".
» lbondx - Mean pay scales. I sure am glad I do my work for some other reason than money. Otherwise, I'd be real depressed about these figures.Having not finished college (but probably having read and studied way more than most graduates), I know we are really penalized for taking charge of our own education and not following the "structured" line designed by society. It's too bad that people aren't tested for their knowledge, but rather given a one-time official sanction and that nets them 2 to 3 times the salaries of others. Oh, well...just one more of the "odd" things about social structures as a whole. -- posted by lbondx » PaulPage - Compensation for Knowledge There are some areas such as banking where knowledge and experience can make up for a college degree. My brother only completed two years of college and has been in banking for 10 years. His salary, commissions and bonus are close if not better than another person with 4 years of college and six years experience. It is all about marketing yourself and managing your resume. Here are some of my favorite books on this subject: "Dynamite Salary Negotiations" by R.L. Krannich and C.R. Krannich as well as "The Nine Steps to Financial Freedom" by Susan Orman. -- posted by PaulPage » DeborahLapoint - How important is money anyway? I once made up a list of job characteristics with the idea of making it an interactive survey in which people could prioritize the list in order of importance. I don't know if I can do that here or not. But I'm still interested in how people would prioritize the list.Of course, money is one of the items, along with such things as prestige, challenge, working creatively, work which expresses your moral values, flexible schedule, varied duties, working with customers or clients, job security, opportunity for advancement or anything else that motivates you to go to work each day. What 2 or 3 things top your list? -- posted by DeborahLapoint
