Mystical,

I agree that Karla is a killer and that she will go back to her sick ways. She's just waiting for her boyfriend, who killed his wife, to get out of jail so she can go on another killing spree. She is more than willing to teach him about sex torture. She is a sicko that should have been given the death penalty, but bleeding heart Canadians won't allow that. If she would torture and kill at 17, what will she do in her 30's after learning even more techniques in prison?

Dear justmyword,

I am a student in grade 12 and I am doing a project on Karla Homolka "Deal with the Devil", and the justice system. I have done plenty of research to be able to prove my points that there are many flaws in our justice system. It's down to the point where our criminals are able to walk around our streets without parol. Who knows what they'll do. Imagine a victim of a rape, murder, sexual assault, running into their attacker? I can't begin to describe how crooked that is. When criminals such as Karla Homolka are able to shorten their sentence by making a deal is remarkably wrong. She does not deserve to be let out after what she did, even though she may have been 'under the influence', there is no excuse. She is a sick person who deserves every last bit of hatred people feel towards her. Also, I agree that she should deserve capital punishment if it were accepted, it's the least she could give back to our society for taking other peoples lives. But then again this is all just my opinion..

Jessie,

A fine opinion for one so young. The future is looking bright with young people like you taking over our country. You go, girl.

Correct, Paul never killed prior toKarla'ssinvolvementt. However it is a PROVEN fact that sexually motivated psychopaths of Paul's caliberr gradually increase the ferocity of there attacks. You have stated in past messages that you believe Karla was the one who started the "sex-slave" idea, yet you completely overlook the fact that Paul spoke to Van Smirnis of his fantasy of having a "farm of virgin school girls" whose only desire was to please him sexually.Furthermore, until you have experienced a long term physically and mentally abusive relationship I don't believe you have any right to comment on the amount of control one person can have over another in that situation. Lastly if Karlaa is the instigator in the this situation then why did Paul, entirely alone, abduct Lindsay Mahaffy from her back yard. Karla was not even present, how could she have "instigated" Paul's actions.
I don't believe that Karla was by ANY means blameless in this situation, however I do not for one second believe that she was the mastermind behind the killings. I believe her main mistake in the entire situation was allowing herself to be victimized by Paul. My heart goes out to the families of these girls, but I believe that the blame lies largely in Paul's lap.

Did you ever consider that the reason she looks so happy is not because prison life is so great, but simply because it is a heck of a lot better than the life she lived with paul. Look at pictures of her from the time she spent with him. Yes, many of them she is smiling but it is always a fake, painted on smile, nothing like the smile she had before or after her time with him. I do believe Karla made alot of mistakes but I think that 5 years under his controlling and abusive thumb combined with 12 years in prison is penance enough. All other consequences will be doled out when she meets her maker, and we should stop judging lest we be judged. I can quarantee you that most of the people judging Karla have committed sins of their own, albeit less atrocious in the worlds eyes, all sins are equal in our lords eyes.

It's not about hate. It's not even about punishment. It's about protecting society from a profoundly disturbed and dangerous person.

I can't imagine how any judge could feel twelve years was an adequate sentence for a perpetrator and/or accomplice in the perpetration of rape, torture, murder, and dismemberment. The mental illness that led her to commit these crimes has not been remedied, and in fact, probably cannot be.

This woman is a perfect example of the kind of person who will always be a danger to others, and should therefore be imprisoned without the possibility of parole.

In response to someone who called Canadians "bleeding hearts" because Canada does not engage in execution: please look up the list of countries which still have the death penalty. You will see that the vast majority of the world has recognized the pointless barbarism of execution -- even many nations we in North America consider "uncivilized."

Execution is not necessary for the protection of society; it is nothing more than vengeance, and as such, it panders to the very worst of human instincts. The impulse to kill must be resisted and risen above... even when the killing is "socially acceptable."

Did you ever consider that when people take pictures they are posing. (usually fake, or painted on smiles). She deserves to die for what she did. her alone what about her sister it was her choice to give her to paul, hers alone. not to mention she wasnt even married yet, every opportunity to tell, but no she joins in and yes he probably would of escalated from his crimes to murder but definitely with her beside him backing him all the way. Let me ask you all this, if it was your child murdered the way that leslie and kristen was would you still have the same opinions of karla? She deserve to die. hope she gets beat to death.

Devil's Advocate,

It is Leslie Mahaffy, not Lindsay. You are entitled to your opinion. I'm entitled to mine. Karla is a very ill person and she will offend again.

BTW, I have been in an abusive relationship, but it didn't cause me to abduct, rape and kill anyone. Instead, I reported him to the police and got out. Smart move on my part. It's odd that Karla never said anything about the abuse until she knew things were closing in.

Please get real. This woman killed her own sister and never showed one bit of remorse. Sorry, I don't buy it.

This is obviously a sick woman. Yes she served the agreed amount of time and our anger should be aimed not only at her but the deal makers and the media as well. The media are fear mongers because it sells papers and airtime. This inturn improves ratings and personal gain. I lived in St. Kitts when that all happened. I've been in a severely abusive relationship and never turned on little girls. I'm about the same age as Karla. Went to the same school, partied at the same bars, my coworker brought her cat to the vet's office where Karla worked. The media has twisted the true story.

Yes Paul raped Karla's sister, with drugs that Karla stole from the vet.

Yes Paul kidnapped Leslie on his own (he was the Scarborough Rapist and a monster himself), but they dismembered her overnight with tools that Karla "borrowed" from the vet and encased Leslie in cement together.

Yes Paul did unthinkable things to poor Kristen hog tieing her that the slightest move might choke her, but it was Karla that shoved Kristen and killed her when Paul wasn't home.

When all of St. Catharines were looking for the killers Karla went to work, and gossipped with the people bringing in their pets. "How could anyone do anything so horrible to those poor little girls?"

She is sick. She has never shown any remorse for her actions, she shows disdain for the community of St. Catharines for not empathizing with her and she's taken on the surname Teale after a serial killer in a novel. She served the agreed amount of time, but sure hasn't done her time. I'm suprised none of the police, politicians, or lawyers haven't taken responsibility for their mistake. The blood of those girls (along with a few others who have lived to suffer the pain of the torture in St. Kits and other places) is not only on the hands of Paul and Karla.
