I'm surprised that you have those fairs that late in the year. Most of ours end around the first of September. However, I'm one who always loves a good gathering of crafters, joy riders, and turkey-leg vendors. They always come up with something new, interesting and yummy.

Mary,

I really enjoyed your article on Autumn in your part of the world. October is my favorite month (along with April)in the Ozarks. Most of the leaves are still green around here now, with the exception of a few early showers, like dogwoods and sassafrass. I'm looking forward to all the colors coming in. Walking in the woods then, is like walking in a fairy land.

I hope all is well with you, Mary!

Take care.

Renie

Hi Hank, I see you're still around at the Suite. smile

Hi Renie:

Does the Ozarks have enough poison oak and ivy to add a little excitement to those nature walks? California used to and probably still does. I remember suffering though the itches for almost a week after taking a nature walk in the Berkeley hills.

Yes, Hank, there is abundant poison oak and ivy to lend some excitement, and lots of color as well! Of course, snakes add excitement, too, as does the occassional black bear, ambling around. A walk in the woods is never dull!

Yoo, Hoo, Mary, how have you been?

Oops. I think I'll stay out of those woods. My walkers just get in the way when I'm trying to outrun a bear.

We took a trip to St Cloud yesterday, though, and really enjoyed the fall colors. They are not as pretty as those in the New England states, but they do their best to compete.

Hank

Hank,

In Ontario, the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto is the last fair of the year and it takes place in November. Our first fairs take place on Labor Day weekend. It's quite cool to visit the fair many years and you must learn to dress in layers.

Renie,

Yes, my favorite times of year are spring and fall as well. Our lives are all painted and falling rapidly. However, the woods and forests are splashed with color and the forest green backdrop of evergreens sets them off perfectly. I would love to walk with you in your woods in autumn. It must be wonderful.

Renie,

Overall, I've been fine. I did injure my eye in the summer and last week had the flu, but the world is treating me well. How about you? It's so nice to see you here. I sure miss all of the old gang.

My problems involve putting on five layers of parkas and covering my face so my nose doesn't freeze. Being a native Californian, I have a hard time putting up with even the mild "winters" of Minnesota.

By the way, I have been trying to send you a "guest" article for the Kiddie section but my emails keep bouncing. The one you list on Suite101 is always shut down due too much traffic.
