» Hobbes - Out of curiousity, I would be interested to hear the perspective

Out of curiousity, I would be interested to hear the perspectives of those who visit this site to the proposed Free Trade Area of the Americas conference, to be held in Quebec City under virtual martial law, and the protest which is expected as a result of it. This trade deal has very dangerous implications for all of the Americas, and Canada in particular. I suggest that an article on it would be appropriate in this section.

In response to message posted by Hobbes:

Hey Hobbes, this is Jeff

ok , first of all : i live in québec city
and secondly, i study in political science at Laval University (in Québec city) so you can understand my... interest in this event.

Personally, i feel that the articles written in suite 101 are more of the "realistic" tradition, i think you know what that means.. so i dont know what success your request will have in generating real straight up articles... so here goes my attempt (we never know...)

I suggest that you write what you think and maybe i will too (probably later cause im in the exams)
as you can imagine , it's crazy down here. Im part of the student association and we constantly work on the subject cause we need a mandate from the students to talk for our department(more technically then ideologicaly) because we have issues like finding places for the protestors to sleep etc. and also the more tactical approche to protesting(as you know, there will be a 3.8 km fence around the city center, where the Big Boys will be). We have commitees etc.

It's clear in my mind (and of any somewhat conscious being's i think) that the Free Trade Area of the Americas is bullshit and the process in which it's being passed is undemocratic and anti-social. So, no more discussion is needed, we have here the support of almost all the students and of many political science teachers. It's time for action (whatever kind of action). We believe it's our responsability as politicized people to do so.

Can you tell me if you hear a lot about the Summit in your university and if so , : what do you hear? and are you thinking of coming here in april?
Again, im glad to hear that you are concerned with this potentially flagrant transgression of national soverainty (in a irreversible way). That makes many of us(more than we first thought... )

i hope there will be more responses to this "article". i know i'll be back here with something more coherent in the coming weeks.
ps: your email adress didn't work...demoth@hotmail.com...?
allright, check you later

First: Yes, I am coming in April. My e-mail is aghg@mta.ca

I would be very interested in finding out if you could arrange any lodging space for me and my group at your university.

Second, I think that you should consider reading the "international relations" page in political science here. Me and the contr. editor have been having some interesting discussions on the nature of his right-wing, ultra conservative perspective.

At our university, we are organizing, but we are a very tiny town, with no more than 2500 students at out University. That means that we are only sending a dozen or more from our school, despite our efforts to convince people to go, because there is a great deal of fear concerning the probability of arrest, should someone go to Quebec City. We had Maude Barlow in to speak to us earlier, and David Suzuki was just here yesterday. They were very informative and supportive of the cause.

Anyways, I guess thats all for now. Oh wait . . . what is going on with Tremblay's court case? We don't get any relevant papers but the Globe out here.
