» Hobbes - Out of curiousity, I would be interested to hear the perspective Out of curiousity, I would be interested to hear the perspectives of those who visit this site to the proposed Free Trade Area of the Americas conference, to be held in Quebec City under virtual martial law, and the protest which is expected as a result of it. This trade deal has very dangerous implications for all of the Americas, and Canada in particular. I suggest that an article on it would be appropriate in this section.-- posted by Hobbes » JFranco - Re: Out of curiousity, I would be interested to hear the perspec In response to message posted by Hobbes:Hey Hobbes, this is Jeff ok , first of all : i live in québec city Personally, i feel that the articles written in suite 101 are more of the "realistic" tradition, i think you know what that means.. so i dont know what success your request will have in generating real straight up articles... so here goes my attempt (we never know...) I suggest that you write what you think and maybe i will too (probably later cause im in the exams) It's clear in my mind (and of any somewhat conscious being's i think) that the Free Trade Area of the Americas is bullshit and the process in which it's being passed is undemocratic and anti-social. So, no more discussion is needed, we have here the support of almost all the students and of many political science teachers. It's time for action (whatever kind of action). We believe it's our responsability as politicized people to do so. Can you tell me if you hear a lot about the Summit in your university and if so , : what do you hear? and are you thinking of coming here in april? i hope there will be more responses to this "article". i know i'll be back here with something more coherent in the coming weeks. -- posted by JFranco » Hobbes - Re: Quebec First: Yes, I am coming in April. My e-mail is aghg@mta.caI would be very interested in finding out if you could arrange any lodging space for me and my group at your university. Second, I think that you should consider reading the "international relations" page in political science here. Me and the contr. editor have been having some interesting discussions on the nature of his right-wing, ultra conservative perspective. At our university, we are organizing, but we are a very tiny town, with no more than 2500 students at out University. That means that we are only sending a dozen or more from our school, despite our efforts to convince people to go, because there is a great deal of fear concerning the probability of arrest, should someone go to Quebec City. We had Maude Barlow in to speak to us earlier, and David Suzuki was just here yesterday. They were very informative and supportive of the cause. Anyways, I guess thats all for now. Oh wait . . . what is going on with Tremblay's court case? We don't get any relevant papers but the Globe out here. -- posted by Hobbes
