Québec nationalism
This archived discussion is "read only".
» JFranco - more than language... I think it's important for everyone to realize that the french language is not the only cause of nationalism and seperatism in Québec. It's a question of pride and self achievement. Also, lets not only look at the economic side of things: sure, nobody should cry over our economic situation within the canadian federation. However, it is much more about WHO has the power. I believe in our historical mission to give to the Québec nation the official status of a country, one who will be equal amongst the concert of States. I,m conscious that bringing up historical reasons for seperatism can be tricky, but lets not forget that had the French not lost to the English on the plains of Abraham, who knows where we might be as a country. I believe it's never too late and that making history is the task of everyone who is willing to do so; not with guns but with the force of persuasion and political persistance.Again,as any "wise" nationalist would say, the persuit of national soverrainty is not aimed against Canada but for the Québec people. I know all this sounds very familiar to the non-québéquois, but i figure you have to be living it to fully understand our motivation.Canada shouldn't be our father(or mother...), but rather our brother(or sister...).-- posted by JFranco » RoryC - Quebec Separation I'm a sophomore in high school and was asigned a paper on the situation between Quebec and the rest of Canada. Being a US resident, I don't have the insight a Canadian can give. If anyone would like to please share and information, or just voice your opinion I would truly appreciate your time and effort! Thank you!-- posted by RoryC
