I don't want to hear about PMs appointing senators just to get their way. I don't want to see senators not attending Senate meetings and get payed for it, then have a nice retirement package to boot. I don't want to feel like the rest of Canada is being ignored by Ontario and Quebec. What I do I want is for senator to be a respectable job.

I would love to see senators elected from their respective regions. The german version or the one by the Doctor mentioned in the article doesn't seem all that bad. It makes me feel like if the senate were changed to something like that it would unite the country even more.

I agree Michael, having the senators elected would give the position more legitimacy. Unfortunately, at this point I think many people would prefer to just abolish the Senate.
