Urban Cowboy or Urban Legend: The Myth of the Cowboy ImageRead the article this discussion is about

» Red - Paula, I happened upon... your column and found this article very interesting. My father worked on a ranch in British Columbia when he was young. He often told of the lonliness and hard work that he endured when working there.Though he loved the majestic splendor of BC, he rode line. This is a very solitude existence. He had only his horse for company most of the time. Like many other things in this world, the life of a cowboy is portrayed in myth. Dime novels in the 1800's often depicted the western life as a romantic and glorified one. That is far from the truth. I really enjoyed this column and am glad that I happened upon your topic. You can be sure that I will be back to visit. The article was very well written and as a Canadian I am very interested in your articles. See you soon. -- posted by Red » calypso3 - A Hearty Thank You Hi Mary,Thank you so much for your comments about my article. I found it fascinating to write, as cowboys and their image was a major part of my life growing up. I guess I was watching too many cowboy movies, because the truth that I discovered was all to different than what I was seeing on TV. I am glad you enjoy my articles, and I look forward to hearing from you again. Best, Paula Kirman -- posted by calypso3
