» jhwriterman - Timothy Findley anecdote of landing craft???

I once heard someone being interviewed on the CBC
and I think it was Timothy Findley (though I could be way off) who told a terrible story about
(his father??) who was piloting a landing craft
(at D-Day or Dieppe, probably) but who was too
afraid to come close enough to shore to let the soldiers land. I think he somehow managed to get
a lot of them killed, and it was a shattering experience for him.

I may have this all jumbled up but does it sound
familiar to anyone??? If so, please let me know who's story this is and whether it has been written down, and where

Thanks,
jhwriterman
