Law vs. Justice -- The Robert Latimer CaseRead the article this discussion is about

» Red - Law vs Justice - The Robert Latimer Case I have mixed emotions on this case, as many Canadians do. Being from a rural upbringing, I was taught that it is compassionate to assure that living creatures do not suffer needlessly. As a child I saw many animals put "our of their misery." Last November, I made that choice for my beloved dog of 13 years.Somehow, we knew growing up that this compassion and mercy did not extend to humans. The Bible says, "Thou Shalt Not Kill." I don't believe in taking another persons life. Yet how can I judge Robert Latimer? The Bible says that we aren't to judge others. What would we do if we watched a child suffer for so many years and knew that she was going to suffer continously for the rest of her life. We have no idea what we would do until we were forced to make that decision. As Grandma used to say, "In order to know what a person is going through, we have to walk in his shoes." So, I reserve judgement on Robert Latimer. Have a great week. Thanks for writing this article on the controversial case of Robert Latimer. -- posted by Red » bridget1 - Re: Law vs Justice - The Robert Latimer Case In response to message posted by Red:Always so glad when you stop to visit and chat, Mary. Your understanding and compassion is appreciated. Further to your comments, that compassion and mercy/relief from suffering did not extend to humans. I wonder if part of that may be that, in most cases, the suffering were removed from the home. And that the compassionate and merciful decisions that were/are made in hospitals remain with the family and loved ones. The discussion never reaches a public level, honest disclosure is avoided or denied, and those who have not yet confronted the suffering of a loved one remain oblivious to the reality. Law prefers to be blind. I'm not advocating one opinion over another. But I do feel that this man is trapped in a no-man's land between law and justice. I'm glad you have reserved judging. That itself is compassionate. Sincerely, -- posted by bridget1
