I heard about the problems in BC on the news. It is too bad that both the Canadian and provincial governments in this country feel that the Native people are their enemy. It has been that way since we (the Europeans) moved in here and took the lands from the Native people.I live in Brantford, ON, just off the Six Nations Reservation. I grew up in the community of Onondaga where the white people were the minority. I have always emphasized with the Natives as well.
A few years ago, there was a confrontation in Northern Ontario. An OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) shot and killed a Native man. What a hub bub about that. I felt the police officer was in the wrong but of course, he was not prosecuted.
I wish you a good summer and hope everything calms down in your part of the country without any blood shed.

Thank you, Mary. Yes, the issues are complicated, but it is easy to identify with the frustrations. We'll have to wait to see what happens next. BC's problems are different from those in the rest of Canada (because no treaties were signed before new people flooded in). I'll get into that next month. jmb-- posted by bridget1
