I'm sorry, I was thinking in my mind that the reference to "sister pop-up" sounded like a dealer talking, I meant to say from a flagstaff enthusiast. I thought the the original poser of the question wanted to hear opinions, and I posted mine as a Coleman enthusiast.

I was unaware of any product that passed its warranty on to a second owner without selling that second owner a warranty. Coleman does stand 100% behind their warranty to the purchaser. Does this mean that if one buys a used Flagstaff then that the company will warranty it to the second buyer? I was surprised though that the Flagstaff experienced so many problems so early on and had to be back at the dealership for work right away.

I'm sorry also that just because of a slip of the keyboard my credibility has gone to pot. Guess it's time for a vacation. We're headed for the cool of Maine for a few weeks. (In our Coleman).

Regardless of what you use for shelter, get out there and enjoy the great outdoors!

"I was unaware of any product that passed its warranty on to a second owner without selling that second owner a warranty."

Automobiles do. This is where the confusion often lies with popups. Many people think that because automobile warranties transfer that the warranty for popups do too. There are countless people on other boards (popuptimes.com, alt.rv.pop-up-trailers) who have or ar considering purchasing a used popup)in this case a late model Coleman with ABS roof sag) only to find out they have a $2000 repair because the warranty doesn't transfer on a clearly defective product. But you're right, warranties for most products don't transfer to a second owner, but on the other hand many people THINK they do on popups simply because they do on automobiles.

On a final note, anecdotal evidence of a single person's experience with a popup (in this case the Flagstaff) does not represent the quality of an entire product line. It is not at all unusual for popup owners to bring their trailers in several times for warranty work as none of the trailers are very well built. Go to some of those websites mentioned and by and large most owners of all new makes and models will agree it's not as important which brand you buy, but rather the quality and location of your dealer because you will likely be bringing it in for minor repairs/manufacturing oversights.

I never meant to say your credibility was LOST, only that you compromise it whan you make statements using the same logic for which you criticized others.

Enjoy your popups everyone, regardless of which brand you own!

» richwi - Rooftop Carrier

We like to windsurf and I found myself in need of a rooftop carrier for our boards. I designed one made of PVC, some foam pipe insulation for cushioning of the boards and some simple ratchet type straps to attach it securely. We happen to have a Viking pop-up but the design would work on any brand. If anyone is interested in this simple, inexpensive design let me know and I'd be more than happy to share it.

Did you ever find those plans. I am thinking about creating my own pop-up as well and haven't found a thing. I think I will just go for it and see what happens.

» aspears - Build my own bike carrier

I would like to build my own camper top carrier for five bicycles and maybe a cooler. I was thinking PVC pipe might work well. Does anyone have and plans or know where I could find some? Thank you.

» JoeC49 - Hard Side popups

Sorry, bluegrassgal, I couldn't get a reply or email to work. I have a 92 Rockwood 1270SS, with SS meaning solid sides. Still has canvas ends, has shower with built in head and holding tank. Really pretty nice. I really don't think the solid sides are worth the extra weight though. I tow with a 4wd suburban, and it still feels like a ton. Want to buy mine?

did you find any real advantages to hard sides that would be worth passing on?

» Snow56 - Cleaning Canvas

Hi..we have a 1985 Coleman Shenandoah. The canvas is in great shape, but looking a bit gray (on the inside of the bunk ends) this year.
Would love to clean this up...it was either X-14 or Tilex that was recommended...I didn't write it down...also 3-1 water/bleach. Does anyone have any suggestions??? We love this camper, and plan on doing some updating..counters need to be changed since they had been water damage prior to our ownership. We have had this for 6 years, and have taken it out lots!! Also we would like to add roof vent, has anyone done that??
Thanks and happy camping!!!

» Tashams - Pop Up Trailers

A friend would like to sell me his 1976 Coleman Lexington pop up trailer for $950. It's in excellent condition. I'm worried that it won't be a good value if things start breaking down. I'm more inclined to put the $950 towards a newer Used model.
Can a pop up trailer still be functional for another 15 years (it's 25 years old already)
Any thoughts?

» Abbanat - Re: Pop Up Trailers

Hi Tasham,

I'm not familiar with that model so I don't know what features it comes with, but yes, an older model can still be functional in my opinion. However, I agree with you in that if instead you used that money to put towards a newer used model you would be in better shape. For example, you can easily find an early '90s popup in the $2000-$3000 range that will probably give you more years of service than the $1000 popup from the '70s. Hope this helps.
