We have been in similiar situations and know the frustration. When we bought our travel trailer last spring ( with an electric tongue jack) it didn't come with a hand crank. If our battery died, we would have been out-of-luck! We immediately went out and bought a hand crank. Haven't had to use it--but we are prepared! Oh yes, we don't have a spare tire, but we have two wheels per side. If one goes flat, the other tire will get us to a repair shop.-- posted by Tom_Stephens » Heide - Old Pop up Hello, I have been reading all the posts with great interest. we have always tent camped with our children and really enjoyed it. But this last trip ended in a wet tent with four bored children and mom and dad even more stir crazy.We decided right then and there to start looking for a pop up.My husband this week dragged home a 71 starcraft, he bought for $200 It is in ok condition, he plans to spend the next year cleaning and repairing. The mechanics work great as well as the heater and stove.Fridge is out and a few rips and holes in the canvas. We can replace the canvas for about $700. For about $1000 all told we could have a pretty nice set up. The waves move with impressive slowness, but there are waves. Our family has seen our tent floor look like that once in each of Michigan's two great peninsulas. Where are you guys going over the holiday? I assume you mean the 4th of July. Pam and I don't camp on holidays--too darn many people out there for us. We would love to hear all about your trip though.Dan, I know all about floating floors. We had one in a tent at Yellowstone one year. Pam literally bailed us out with a milk carton--empty of course! We had no shovel. That is one reason we decided to buy our pop-up. Then, we continued to get wet while setting up and taking it down--so we decided to buy our travel trailer! Hope you are enjoying the camping season. We have three weeks (1 more to go) w/o camping plans and are getting some much needed work done around the house. Also, we are in the process of purchasing a new van...if we can work out the deal. What a pain that is...there weren't any near by, and the dealer who said he would find one for me dropped the ball and didn't maintain communication, so I started searching the web and found one next big city over, about an hour away, so quite close and last one with specs we want in the area. Well I digress, BTW, someone posted about roof racks on coleman, if you have a Coleman warranty as you are first owner, coleman has to approve what you put on the roof, or you void the warranty!!! With possible roof sag, don't chance it, could be a costly 'savings' doing it yourself in the end...I would not swear to this part, but my memory is they told us coleman actually has to install also...but I could be wrong on that! We are going to a campground on Lake Ontario for fourth of July, I know, crowds, but hubby gets an extra day off and we want to be in the woods. I really like opening up all my flaps and being in the woods, all the sounds and smells...mmmmmm That's what I like about a pop up!
