» sue_rick - Dodge Dakota

Hi all. Just wondering if any one has done any towing with a Dodge Dakota. I was considering one as a tow vehicle for my Colemon Sedona (GVWR 2500 lbs.). I was looking at a Dakota with a 4.7L V8 engine, 4-speed trans. I havent found out what its towing ratings are yet. Any one with any information would be helpful. Also does anyone know of a site that rates tow vehicles or what transmissions seem to hold up best? Thanks for any help and happy camping everyone.

» newpop - help

We are interested in a used pop-up (the last rainy night in a tent I hope!). I found a 1985 Sun-Lite Redbird II. It is in excellent condition. The owner has it stored in a garage with a tarp over it to keep the dust off. He is asking $1500. Is that a lot for the year? What kind of a reputation did Sun-Lite have? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

On Nada.com they only go back as far as 1986 for the Sunlite. Their high price was $960, so it seems high.

» run4fn - Dodge Dakota towing

Check with your dealer or www.edmunds.com for the towing capacity of the Dakota. I suspect it can tow 5000+ lbs, so the popup should not be a problem. I would advise putting a transmission cooler on it if you haven't already.

» Ringtail - Toilets and Showers in Tent Trailers

We are currently looking at a 2000 Coleman "Timberlake". It is fully equipped with a toilet and shower. Does anyone have experience with these options? Are they worth the extra money$$$. I would really appreciate any comments from our camping friends.

You should not have any problems with towing your camper. My father owns one and he pulls a 21 ft. proline with it and he does it with ease. Make sure it has a trans. cooler on it. alot of places offer towing packages.

» ezcamper - Overdrive all the way or not ?

I am looking for advice. I just arrived from my first trip with my pop-up.

Does anyone have information on the way to drive with a trailer. Should I go all the way with the overdrive and switch occasionally to drive when driving through mountainous area. Like; going down on overdrive and switching to drive when going uphill. Is it o.k.?

I own a Coleman Fairview and my towing vehicle is a Pontiac Transport 1996 with trans cooler. My trip went very well but I had to ask this advice.
On the highway, there was no question about overdrive.

» marymelody - Indoor Heaters

Hi Anne,
Coleman makes an indoor heater called the Black Cat. Try here; http://www.coleman.com/coleman/ColemanCo...
If that link doesn't work just go to www.coleman.com and click on heaters.
I plan to do some winter camping also and this heater has been highly recommended. I'm waiting for the year end closeout sales to start before I purchase one, so I can't personally tell you how they work. I will be camping with my three year old, so I needed to find something safe also and this seems to be the safest heater available next to the forced air. Good Luck,
Mary

» Tom_Stephens - Overdrive

I would be very careful towing while in overdrive as you can burn out your higher gears. If I am towing on level ground, on a freeway and doing over 60 mph, then I use my overdrive. Even then, if I am bucking a head wind, I'll lock out my overdrive. It cost me $1400 a few years ago to learn this lesson!

Yours,
