» ematzavi - Help for lifting mechanism

Las summer the wife forgot to unlatch one of the four hinges that hold the roof. Excessive pressure was placed in lifting and something snapped. Now one corner does not lift anymore and we have to push it up manually. The whole thing is out of balance. Any inexpensive ideas on how to fix the problem? Your help is highly appreciated. The trailer is a 1997 Jayco 12'.

My husband and I just bought a camper with a similiar problem - he said he just need's to replace the guy wire - it snapped I guess - don't know if this helps, our tent camper is older so they might be different.

» KellyJ0033 - 1973 Jayco

We bought a 73 Jayco popup about 6 months ago for $200. The canvas is original with few problems. The sink and 2 burner stove need to be hooked up with little effort. The camper is sound and overall in good shape.

Today we got back from our first outting to Satterwhite Point on Kerr in North Carolina. Only 20 minutes away from home. We've been tent camping before but never in a state park. The sites were larger than I thought. We parked the popup, my truck and the wifes car with PLENTY of room to spare. Very nice campground if your in this area.

My question has to do with the tires on this popup. They are small in dia and wide (golfcart tires?) I am wondering how safe these are for extended trips, pending axle grease? Even though there is more rubber on the road, when the truck is going 65 RPM the trailer tires have gotta be going twice that.

Any bad experiences with these lil' tires would be helpful.

Hi Kelly, yep those little tires are going pretty fast. I have a 76 Jayco tent trailer, tandem axle, with the same kind of tires. Best thing to do is to keep your speed down to about 90km [50-55mph] and make sure you have grease nipples on the outside of your hubs[you can purchase them], that way you know that they are always greased, and always have a spare and a good little axle jack. Good luck.

We have had two tent trailer (a Coleman and a Jayco) with the same tires you're talking about. We have towed them hundereds of miles at freeway speeds and have had no trouble. The only thing I would say is that Dico brand tires are terrible. After only a couple of years in the Arizona sun (even with covers on) the rubber breaks down and the sidewalls become cracked. We had a failure in Mexico one time and I swore I'd never use another Dico again!
