» DavidandNett - Pop Up Trailers

We are shopping for a good used pop up in Alabama and have found very little selections in our price range ($2000 or less).

One we did find was a 1989 that had a very strong smell. maybe of mildew as I noticed some black spots on the inside. The smell reminded me of World War II Army Tent. The lady said it was because she just opened up, so we waited 24 hours and returned. Smell was still very much present.

Is it possible to get rid of such a strong smell? Locating a good pop up...we have searched newspapers, traders, word of mouth, etc...anyone have additional suggestions on locating good campers?

Any and All help is much appreciated!!!!!!!

» cortland - coleman campers

We are looking to buy new or used coleman pop up. Like the Greand tour or Elite lines. My question - do the dealers dicker off the sticker price like when you buy a car? If so, is there a way of finding out the costs etc like you can on cars so that you go in with some knowledge of what you are doing?

In response to message posted by LindaKing:

We are realy struggling with whether or not to get a shower/toilet. I like the Bayside the best, but I need to convince myself that we don't want a shower/toilet. Help? Help?

Also, Do you keep your Bayside in your garage? I have another struggle. My garage is only 19'8". I know the trailer will be tight, but am I kidding myself about squeezing something that big in there?

Would I be crazy to buy this and pay to have it stored somewhere?

Thanks, we have tried the RV Trader but most trailers sell before they are posted on the internet or the same day they were advertised.

» archiew - Question about selling Pop-Up

My wife and I want to sell our pop-up and are not sure how to go about finding a fair market value. Are there any internet sources I could use? We'd like to avoid using a dealer.

We're not giving up on camping, we just haven't used it much in the past 5 years. We generally use a tent when we camp.

Speaking as a former sales person who sold Colemans, yes they do. Unfortunately, I have never seen a guide that gives the inside scoop on dealer costs so you are flying blind.

Depending on where you live, the best times to purchase is in the dead of winter when demand is very low and during show times. I sold Colemans in NE and there are some very big shows in Jan/Feb. These are great buying opportunities. Best idea, go through the show on the first day to get the lay of the land. Return on the last day, go to every dealer who carries your brand and ask for their best price, don't shy away from letting them know you are shopping the other dealers. If you are lucky, some one of the dealers will be have soft show sales and be eager to chalk up one more sale on the last day.

In response to message posted by DavidandNett:

Ask your friends. Check out trailer storage areas. There is someone out there that no longer uses their pop-up, usually trading up.

I got mine from a friend at church for $60. Granted, when I got it, it didn't "pop" so it was a fixer upper. After the furnace I am installing I probably spent 100 hours fixing it up and another $800 on parts from an RV junk yard.

I bought an old starcraft that didn't pop either. Turns out that 2 cables were broken. Yes, I was able to repair it. It was a 2 man job. Also bought a manual on it. Also, we have a RV junk yard here in Denver that I bought parts from. Had to take it apart and bring in the parts though. But, I paid 40 cents on the dollar for the parts. It can be done!

In response to message posted by marymelody:

I bought a black cat. It was 3000 BTU's. It was adequate for a fall evening, but I would need 3 or 4 more during winter. Therefore, I just went out a bought a gravity feed furnace.
