Coleman Taos Tent Trailer
This archived discussion is "read only". « Previous 1 2 Next » » Tom_Stephens - Windstar Van Well, I don't know John. Out here in California, I have seen many Windstars and older Aerostars towing pop-ups. You are right about the other makes, but a van is a very good dual-purpose vehicle. Good around town with the kids and a very nice tow vehicle for pop-ups under 4,500 lbs.-- posted by Tom_Stephens » Abbanat - Re: Mercedes ML 320 SUV BandJYoure Mercedes can tow significantly more than a Coleman Taos. Check your tow ratings to find out what your towing capacity is. Try www.trailerlife.com and that should give you a pretty good idea, or contact your dealership. Whether Coleman is the "best" pop-up tent trailer is subject to debate. If I were you, I wouldn't exclude any brand. They're all pretty good and will give you years of good service. The Coleman Taos is the most basic Coleman popup and is an 8' box, which is kind of small for my needs. Some other brands to consider are Jayco, Starcraft, Palomino, Rockwood, Viking, etc. Give them all a look and then decide which one you like best, but I think it's a mistake to only consider Coleman. Good luck. -- posted by Abbanat » Robert_Jones - Coleman Taos I have a Coleman Taos and I am well pleased with it. The main thing to consider is how many people will be camping in the trailer since it is the smallest one that Coleman makes. I would not consider it for more than 4 people, even though it will sleep 6 (it will be very crowded).-- posted by Robert_Jones » felinefrenz - Re: Coleman Taos In response to message posted by Robert_Jones:I just purchased a pristine used 1996 Taos. Can you give me any hints. I had a large motor home many years ago, then a few years ago, went the way of the tent, now in a popup. What are some of your experiences w/the Taos? tks -- posted by felinefrenz » maureendoug - Towing With A MPV Hi we have a 92 Mazda MPV and though it has a good tow rating and a transmission cooler we had transmission problems towing our 93 Coachman Tent Trailer rated at aprox. 2000 lbs. Is this too heavy for us??Maureenn-- posted by maureendoug » utah - Re: Re: Mercedes ML 320 SUV In response to message posted by Abbanat:We recently purchased a Fleetwood (Coleman) tent trailer. We bought the Utah and we love it! It sleeps up to 9 and we actually slept 8 adults in it this past weekend. We pull with a Tahoe LT. The only problem we seem to be having is when we tow on cement freeway we seem to bounce up and down in some stretches of freeway. We spoke to the dealer that recommended putting more weight in the front of the camper in the storage area, but that did not help. We have a sway bar, but that is not the problem. Any ideas would be appreciated. Several years ago 4 of us were camping in Kissimmee, FL under some river oaks in a beautiful CG. There was no wind or rain and we were sound asleep at 4 in the morning, when one of those huge branches came crashing down on us. We were lucky...it hit the roof AND didn't collapse it! The support on the one corner was bent and the canvas torn out...but the 4 of us were safe. I am sure that if we had been in something with skinny supports, that I may not be writing this. But the best part of this story is that my husband forgot our long water hose that day and all we had was a 3 foot, so we had to move the popup closer in...if we had not had to do so the branch would have landed on the bed boot where our friends were asleep.
