Campers who littler irritate me. As they should you.

The South Fork Campground in Eldorado National Forest, where my son and I camped last night, is a free campground. Often campers take that "freedom" to heart and scatter their bottle caps, cigarette butts and foil wrappers all around.

The party that occupied the campsite before us had an odd sport -- ripping the green and white labels off Heineken Lager bottles. Tissue-thin Heineken labels and bottle caps were scattered all about when we arrived last night.

But they were discriminating drinkers. These guys drink their beer out of bottles -- to a ratio of three green and white bottle caps to one aluminum beer can.

And just so you don't think that Heineken drinkers aren't a diverse crowd, Sierra Nevada and Samuel Adams beer caps also littered the ground. It's just that Heineken drinkers ruled this crowd.

When you camp, please police your campsite. Enjoy your favorite beverage and friendship. But throw garbage in a trash can and not onto the forest floor. It's unsightly, unsafe (broken glass cuts) and just plain disrespectful. And it pollutes.

Any thoughts?

I agree. Pack it in, pack it out.
If people want to see trash they can stay home or go to the dump.
Please take it with you so other people can see it in its pristine state.
