Sorry for the confusion. The PG review meant to read "best expression" not "origin." I don't believe any wine grape originated on California soil, but several have taken very well to our soils and climates. The recent review of Pinot Grigios brought to light California examples which can easily stand with the best from Italy — or anywhere.

I often hear people trying to recommend a red wine that white wine drinkers might like. Well, I think that Pinot Griogio is a white wine that many red wine drinkers can enjoy.
