Keith,

Shame, shame, shame! The title sure got me to look! Great article by the way and I remember growing them in Hawaii well a close relative anyway. I agree they are beautiful and rated G. smile

Keith, you are cerainly right about them not blooming for years if you move them. This is precisely what has happened to mine, they got moved. Now they need to be moved again as the area is in to much shade. If I move them now I may not see any bloom for years. Then again, I might hit it lucky. Marcella

» KeithM_4 - Debra, Hah! At least I made you look. I wonder how many people

Debra,
Hah! At least I made you look. I wonder how many people will look in, expecting to see something x-rated? Oh, well!

Marcella,
Try to wait until they're entirely through blooming before you transplant them! Good luck.

In response to message posted by xexploitedx:

If not available in early spring from your nursery, try ordering through a retail seed company, such as Park or Burpee.

» Aione - Naked Ladies

Hi there! I read your article with interest, because I recently moved to Kentucky and noticed these flowers blooming everywhere, and did not know what they were. I was told they were called surprise lilies, then looked them up and found out they were belladonna lilies. Now I also have found the name Naked Ladies in a book on plants I have and they are not the same plant. In this book they are Autumn Crocus, not even close to looking the same, only one bloom on a stalk, and sometimes having two stalks from one bulb. I just thought it was interesting, plants fascinate me!! Especially the names, and where they come from, and as in this case, how two plants can have the same name in different areas, maybe that comes from mis-identification in another era?

» KeithM_4 - Re: Naked Ladies

I still like the nickname naked ladies in that they bloom on a completely naked stalk.

By the way, to this day, this column is still the most read (by far) of all my columns. Tells you a little about society, right? Throw in the name naked ladies in the title and they'll come flocking.

» pttrade - Belladonna Naked Ladies

Hi I found some good Belladonna Naked Ladies, but they are only available in Australia. The also have a Belladonna Naked Ladies plant care information, which I found very useful.
