In the Pacific Northwest of Washington State we do still have plenty of growing time, but eastern Washington temperatures are winding down and the oppotunity for fall veggies disappears.

Regarding planting garlic, it is such a long-season crop that usually you need to plant in the summer for harvest the following summer. However, in mid-winter areas, especially in parts of coastal California, it stays so warm that garlic can be planted in the fall for harvest the following summer.
